Airlie Beach Fire and Rescue Station

Overview

As principle consultant and architect JMC designed and documented all stages of delivery for the new Airlie Beach Fire and Rescue Station located on Shute Harbour Road, Airlie Beach. A key objective: to improve operational capacity in both the Airlie Beach and Cannonvale areas by providing the infrastructure required to meet the current and projected demand for Fire and Emergency Services. The current facilities located at 2495 Shute Harbour Road, Airlie Beach used to deliver operational capability in the Airlie Beach area is no longer fit for purpose due to its age, condition, design and location. Changing demographics has shifted service demand away from the existing facility, creating an operational capability need in the Cannonvale area that currently does not exist.

The Station includes additional facilities such as a storage facility, training area and Incident Control Centre (ICC) within the Station will further enhance the ability to provide operational support via an all service (interoperability) approach to emergency and disaster management.

Outcomes

The new station building design is based on the QFES FS6 standard design comprising a single story building, incorporating but not limited to, duty office, training room, ICC, three engine bays, vehicle storage shed, BA recommissioning room, equipment/breathing apparatus rooms and station support functions.  The building is designed to importance level 4, designed to be cyclone and debris impact resistant.

• Overall proprietary vehicle storage shed to accommodate up to three spare appliances
• Bicycle rack, flag poles, outdoor covered area for staff use and a services courtyard for a generator, rainwater tank

• Storage boat and trailers
