Creedy Street, One Bedroom Housing

Creedy Street Apartments is a complex of 7 one bedroom units located in Westcourt, Cairns.

Through stakeholder workshops and social housing design reviews the preliminary design for this irregular shape site evolved.  This three storey apartment building contributes positively to support urban renewal and provide affordable and innovative housing that responds to contemporary housing needs.

With only three apartments per level an open breezeway reduced provides shelter but ample cross ventilation to the common circulation areas.  A landscape community area at ground level provides a gathering space for occupants as well as improved surveillance and safety to the site.  Well insulated building envelopes in addition to well sheltered private outdoor covered areas and large buildings overhangs assist to keep the apartments comfortable.  Passive climate responsive design was well considered and included solar energy.

The new building provides accessible and compliant living with a centrally located lift accessible connecting the upper apartments and an accessible path from Creedy Street.
