The Trinity Beach State School Senior Learning Centre represents a state of the art learning facility delivered for the Northern Beaches community to meet the demands of burgeoning population growth in the region, and was completed in December 2016.
JMC Architects design team were engaged in this DETE project for services including Developed Design, Contract Documentation and Design Management. A tendered Design and Construct project in association with Field Construct.
A model for future Department of Education facilities, the building comprises 12 x General Learning Areas, 4 x Practical Learning Areas, a Professional Learning Centre / Staff Room and Outdoor Learning Areas. A carefully detailed landscaped external courtyard joins the old and the new. The modern building utilises passive cooling design principles to ensure covered outdoor learning areas are comfortable for students and teachers at all times of the school day. Bespoke metal folded shading devices and vertical perforated screens provide shade, security and articulate the facades.
The project was delivered over 35 weeks on a compressed timeframe to meet the client’s critical objective of opening the facility for the beginning of the 2017 school year.
This project has the potential to make a significant impact in a region, and may well establish the template for future educational buildings across the state. The judges were extremely impressed with the attention to detail shown, and special mention was made of the variety of materials that were used to generate interest on all facades.
