The original colonial style house was rectangular in plan with a bull nosed verandah surround. The house site was cleared with mature rainforest vegetation on steeply sloping embankments adjacent. Located on the south face of the mountain protection from the hot western afternoon sun was resolved. The house is a desirable destination with 180 degree views to ocean and mountains, cool southern breezes and warm in winter. The brief required ample covered outdoor living spaces relating to the pool and views beyond.
The existing bedrooms were renovated for the client's two daughters and a new separate master suite was provided at the upper level. The separation of levels and their uses was finite to afford privacy to the office suite and master bedroom from the house proper. The result was a tropical contemporary renovation with an aesthetic appeal, reusing the existing framework where possible and providing new to satisfy the clients requirements.
